Someone in my local writers group (Written Remains) brought her Kindle to one of our meetings a couple of years ago. I was intrigued--but look how long it took me to do anything about it!

Kim: I know several people, by email, who love their Nooks. Your kindle email is in your account, under manage my kindle. You have to enter your own email as approved (I think) before you can send. That's to keep people from spamming your kindle. If you shop at fictionwise, you can set up your kindle email there and just click it to send.

I love digital reading so much, if I have to read a print book, I feel aggrieved that I have to hold the book open AND turn the pages. For the longest time, I thought the Kindle, like Fictionwise, snipped off the book covers. Then I backed up from where the book opened, and there was the book cover!

For my next trick :) I discovered how to load prc and mobi files (not from the Amazon Kindle store) onto my Kindle. Nifty how there's a USB inside the power cord adaptor. Simply load the prc or Mobi file onto your computer, then via the USB, copy it onto your Kindle. I had one mobi file take a day to turn up in my Kindle menu, but the prc file of my book, Talking to Trees, was accessible right away.

Thanks for the plug! Meanwhile, I'm still going out and getting those old-fashioned things from places like libraries and bookstores. It may not be possible, but I keep hoping that the two media (books and e-readers) might eventually coexist peacefully.
Thanks for the plug on my titles!Ophelia Julienhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09424224315791620172noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2874501477620914375.post-70466386001560779602011-06-06T22:53:34.435-04:002011-06-06T22:53:34.435-04:00I'm glad you're enjoying your Kindle, Pegg...I'm glad you're enjoying your Kindle, Peggy. I usually am the last to try new gadgets, but I finally bought an iPad and really do like it. The print is so much easier on my eyes, and I've found several great books for free. The price is good on most of the others too. I plan to order many more eBooks.Beverly Stowe McClurehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02176195451841801819noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2874501477620914375.post-40357340033604630432011-06-06T21:39:36.141-04:002011-06-06T21:39:36.141-04:00Sherry, I never really used it that much. But now, everyone and their brother seems to have a Kindle, so I don't need to demonstrate anymore. I just find it's easier to sit at the computer in my comfy desk chair and read, I guess. Most of my reading is editing work, so I need to be where I can make changes. I can't remember the last book I read for pleasure that was fiction.JennaKay Francis, Authorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02368375498230907986noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2874501477620914375.post-82373363686511399102011-06-06T18:20:59.563-04:002011-06-06T18:20:59.563-04:00Ditto Catherine! I actually read Kindle's entire instruction file on the Kindle--while sitting at the computer. Just wasn't used to the freedom to move around yet. All that sitting fixed to one place cost me, too. I ended up with a backache by the time I'd finished.
