Defeat Suck Dragons

This past month I've been struggling with my WIP.  Back in November, I decided to start a new project.  I was so excited and ended up completing 40K!  To some that might not be much but for someone that takes usually a year or so to finish a first draft, this was a big accomplishment.

Well, for the past couple weeks or so I've found myself in suck city.  The story I was so excited about, now felt flat.

Then I remember this one vlog my son watched during Nanowrimo on vanquishing your suck dragons. Robyn Schneider is a fellow YA author and gives some great advice to young writers but I feel it also can work for the rest of us.  I thought I'd share:
So go out there and defeat those suck dragons from your story.  I know I will!

  1. Kim, Sorry to hear about the flatness. I'm sure you'll get this back on track before long. Just make sure you have all your ducks swimming valiantly. Make sure if you have villains they and the hero or heroine have strong motivations.

  2. Okay. I'm ready to suck those dragons from my story. Just the pep talk I needed.

You can do it to, so go, Kim.

  6. Boy can I relate! For NaNo I started my first Dystopian and I was SO pumped. I got 72,000 words written that month and won a Kindle for it at Savvy Authors. Then the holidays rolled by and here it is almost March and I haven't touched the story since. I can't get motivated to finish it and it's driving me nuts. I think about it all the time and have some idea where I want it to go, but...
